We are often asked the same questions about our Remote Car Starters, so we put together answers to the most common questions in this Remote Car Starter FAQs article.
How long does it take to install a remote car starter?
Installation time can vary from a couple hours to a full day, depending upon the vehicle. We ask that the vehicle be dropped for at least half a day. If you are travelling a long distance to come see us, we highly suggest scheduling your appointment for first thing in the morning – then your vehicle will be completed first.
Do you offer weekend appointments?
We give many of our staff the weekends off to enjoy time with family and friends, but we do offer Saturday appointments on a limited basis. Our Saturday appointments can book up to a month in advance, so we suggest planning ahead.
What can I do while waiting for my installation?
We have a comfortable waiting area where you can lounge or work. There’s a water cooler, free pop and popcorn, along with movies, magazines and the local paper. You can also go for a walk, read a book or surf the ’net.
Do you offer shuttle service?
Unfortunately at this time we do not offer a courtesy shuttle. You are welcome to enjoy our beautiful customer lounge.
How long will my engine run when remote started?
We set your system to run for a standard 25 minutes for gasoline engines and 45 minutes for diesel engines. There is an option for a 15-minute run time as well.
Is it “cheaper” to install it myself?
We never recommend installing a remote start yourself. We are an authorized dealer for Compustar and Compustar Pro Series remote start systems made by Firstech LLC. The Compustar warranty states: “This warranty only covers materials both sold and installed by an Authorized Dealer of Firstech’s products.” That means if you buy a unit online or elsewhere and/or install a unit yourself, you do not have a manufacturer’s warranty. Of course, you can see the details HERE.
As for whether it’s cheaper, in the end, only you can determine that.
Will a remote car starter break my car or cause problems?
In a word no, but there is much more information available on our page about Remote Car Starters.
What if my car has a “chipped” key or has a push-button starter?
Most vehicles on the road today employ sophisticated anti-theft systems, whether the car starts with a key or a push-button system. These anti-theft systems are not the same thing as a car alarm or security system. Sweet Sounds has been integrating these anti-theft systems in vehicles since they became popular back around 1998. Please be aware that we do not disable any of your factory anti-theft systems. Instead, our skilled technicians use the best parts and techniques to integrate with your factory anti-theft system at the time the remote start is activated. This is the only method we approve of. Unfortunately, we’ve seen many unscrupulous stores simply disable these systems.
How do you make your wiring connections?
It’s really simple – there is only one right way to do a job, and that’s by following proper soldering techniques. That’s what we do. Almost every day, we remove and replace audio, video and remote start systems that have been installed by so-called professionals. Get it done right the first time at Sweet Sounds.
What is the cost? What is included in the cost?
This may be the best question of all. We dive into the details of our Honest Price Quote on our Remote Car Starter page HERE.

My brother is installing a remote start in his car. He doesn’t know where to begin. When he learned that it can take a full day, depending upon the car, he decided to go with a professional remote start installation company.
