A client from La Sueur recently visited Sweet Sounds while researching a 2015 Polaris General audio system upgrade. The client wanted something that sounded great and played loudly. After looking at the vehicle, we developed an audio upgrade solution that would use components from Rockford Fosgate, Memphis Car Audio and Focal. We wanted to deliver our client the performance he desired!
Polaris Radio Upgrade
We based the audio system around a Rockford Fosgate GNRL-Stage2 radio upgrade and lower front speaker kit. We upgraded the PMX-2 radio from the kit to the PMX-3. The PMX-2 and PMX-3 are very similar, but the latter includes SiriusXM satellite radio connectivity.
The AM/FM and satellite radio antennas are mounted on the roof of the Ranger. This ensures excellent reception. We also added a USB and 1/8-inch auxiliary input jack to the center console to make connecting a smartphone easy.
Front Speaker Solution
The RNGR-STAGE1 kit includes a set of RFGNRL-FSE speaker enclosures that bolt into the kick-panel area of the vehicle. We upgraded the enclosures and mounting area with Roadkill sound deadening to eliminate any buzzes or rattles that might occur. We used a set of 6.5-inch Focal PS165FX components in the enclosures instead of the Prime-Series speakers that came in the kit.
The woofer cones of these Focal speakers are semi-translucent, so we installed orange LED strip lighting in the enclosure to make the speakers glow. We installed additional LED lighting above the footwells of the Ranger to add to the mood lighting.
Polaris General Audio System Amplifier
A Memphis Car Audio MXA4.45 amplifier powers the Focal speakers in a two-channel configuration. Wired this way, this extremely compact amplifier produces up to 120 watts for each of the front speakers. The amp is mounted in the front compartment to keep it clean and dry.
Heated Seat Upgrade
The icing on the cake for this Polaris Ranger upgrade was the installation of heated seat pads. We used carbon-fiber elements on both the driver and passenger seat to ensure that the seating surfaces would remain comfortable and flexible. The kit we used works with the hook-and-loop fastener systems on the seats. The control switches for the heating elements, the stereo and an additional USB charging point are installed in the center switch panel.
Great Sound and Added Comfort
The client returned to Sweet Sounds in Mankato to check out the Polaris General audio upgrade after a few days. He loved the way the system sounded and thought the lighting was an amazing touch. He was looking forward to some cooler weather to try out the heated seats.
