Many clients come to Sweet Sounds in search of Bluetooth convenience solutions for their vehicles. The lawmakers here in Minnesota are working on a bill to make talking without a hands-free solution illegal. This law has raised the awareness of the need for a safe way to communicate while behind the wheel. Sweet Sounds has a Bluetooth convenience solution for almost every vehicle on the road.
What is Bluetooth?
Bluetooth is a low-power, short-range radio communication standard. Cellular phones use Bluetooth to communicate with a Bluetooth receiver to transmit audio through the vehicle’s sound system. The audio system reproduces the incoming caller’s voice clearly, and a carefully placed microphone transmits your voice to the caller. Most Bluetooth solutions also include audio streaming. You can play music from your phone through the Bluetooth digital connection.
What if a Car Doesn’t Have Bluetooth?
We can add Bluetooth hands-free calling and audio streaming to almost any vehicle. If you have a late-model vehicle, then we often use a Sony solution that feeds audio into your sound system through an auxiliary input jack. You can send and receive calls, and stream music with excellent detail and clarity. A hard-wired connection dramatically outperforms systems that use FM transmitters.
Many older vehicles can have an auxiliary input port added thanks to companies like PAC and iSimple. Once you add an aux port, we can add Bluetooth.
If you are looking for Bluetooth and features like a USB port, MP3/WMA file playback or SiriusXM, then we recommend a new radio. A new radio will give you the ability to plug your Android phone or Apple iPhone directly into the radio to play music. You can see the name of the song, artist and album as well. When a phone call comes in, you can see the phone number or the caller’s name. Some radios include voice recognition pass-through functionality from Google or use Siri Eyes (free) to let you send and listen to text messages, place phone calls or choose the music you want.
Premium Communication Solutions
If you are looking to make the most of your iPhone or Android phone, then we have multimedia receivers with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay built in. These solutions add the ability to search for navigation destinations using Google or Apple Maps and offer support for streaming services like Spotify. Your voice controls everything – you just talk to the radio, and your phone takes care of your request.
Why Not Just Plug In the Phone?
You can certainly plug your phone into your auxiliary input jack to play music. This connection method sounds fantastic! However, when a phone call comes in, you have to pick up your phone, disconnect the headphone jack and answer the call. Not only will you have to take your hands off the steering wheel, but you also will have to shift your focus from driving. This would be “distracted driving” and may be illegal.
