In the same way that fall has us installing our snow tires in preparation for the first snowfall, Sweet Sounds in Mankato wants our clients to think about a remote car starter tune-up. An ounce of prevention goes a long way to ensure your car, truck or SUV will always be comfortable and ready to roll, even on the coldest winter mornings. Let’s look at a few things that should be checked before the snow starts to fly.
Remote Control Batteries
If your remote has a built-in rechargeable battery, now is a great time to plug it in for a few hours to make sure it’s topped right up and ready for the season.
For remotes that use AA or AAA batteries, we recommend replacing them with an Energizer Ultimate Lithium battery. These batteries not only last longer, but they won’t leak and damage your remote when they wear out. We have them in stock here at Sweet Sounds.
Compact remotes that use coin cell batteries should be checked to ensure they are still above 3.0 volts. If not, drop by the store – we stock all the batteries required to get any of the remotes we have ever sold ready to go.
How do your remotes look? Do you have a cracked screen? Can you read the buttons? Did Rover spend an afternoon gnawing on one? We have several solutions to get your remotes looking and working like new.
System Condition Checks
Several safety and security functions are built into the remote starter systems we install. The most important is the brake shutdown function. Hop in your car, close the door and remote start the vehicle. Once started, wait a couple of seconds, then press the brake pedal. The engine should shut down right away. If not, give us a call. We’ll make it right.
Range Test
We have seen a few cases where our clients have had their windshields replaced and the antenna hasn’t been reinstalled properly. If you think your remote range isn’t what it used to be, drop by and let us know. We want to make sure that your vehicle will start from as far away as when we installed the system. If you need more range, the modular design of our Compustar systems makes adding a long-range or two-way remote fairly easy.
Schedule a Remote Car Starter Tune-up
If you’d like, give Sweet Sounds a call and schedule a Remote Car Starter Tune-up. We charge $40 and that includes replacing the batteries in your non-rechargeable remote controls. We’ll make sure you are ready for the season, and we’ll let you know if we come across anything abnormal. Give us a call at 507-345-8863 or e-mail us here for more information.
